The quotation is included in the records of William Brett who carried on an extensive painting and decorating trade in Mayo from the 1895 to 1943.  He was also a highly regarded artist and some of his works are hung in public buildings across the county.  The contracting business is still being conducted by his grandson, Aiden, who kindly provided excerpts from his files.  The quotation reads: -

"I propose to provide materials and to paint:
Conservatory (3 Coats, first coat in lead colour, finished green.
Bay Windows    do,  do,  do.
Office Door    do,  do,  -
All the front Windows to get one coat and light varnished: -

For the sum of Two Pounds Four Shillings and Six Pence"
